Power Blackjack is the newest blackjack game to hit the market. This powerful game was developed by Geoff Hall, the inventor of Blackjack Switch and Blackjack Press. Geoff’s games are in casinos all around the globe and on the internet. Geoff feels that this is the best game he has designed because it really gives the player the feeling that they have many options to take the house down and come out a winner. Shuffle Master is negotiating with Geoff for world wide distribution, that is, except for California as we have been awarded the rights here. Shuffle Master also distributes the Press game but that game is highly volatile where Power BJ is not.

The game, if played using standard BJ basic strategy rules will give the house an advantage of 0.78%. The base game has an advantage of 0.55%. Playing with basic strategy adds 0.23% to the edge. Blackjack players will need to learn a new set of basic strategy rules if they are going to benefit from this exciting new version.

Here are the major differences in this game:

  1. When the player’s first 2 cards have a total of 10 or 11(including a soft count of the same value) they are allowed to go for a Power Double. The players can double their bet under the same rules as the casino’s other BJ games (double for less or for the same amount). The Dealer gives the player their Double Down card. At this point, the player will decide if they like that card or not. If they don’t, the Dealer will kill that card and give the player the next card in the deck. The player must keep that card.
  2. When the player’s first 2 cards have a total of 15 or 16 (not soft totals) they are allowed to go for a Power Split. The player, if they choose to split their hand creating 2 hands, will place an equal bet next to their original bet and the Dealer will split the cards. The Dealer will continue the hitting process using the same rules that apply to all their other BJ games.
  3. If the Dealer busts with a hand value of 22, all bets on the table push. This does not apply to the players that had Blackjack hands as they have already been paid.

Please keep in mind that the rules for this site are based on Russia’s game rules. The #9 does not qualify for a Power Double in the US and most casinos hit on soft 17 in the US.

Think about it!!!

You get 2 shots at your double downs, are able to split the worst 2-card totals and still get paid 3/2 on Blackjacks and the houses only advantage is the push on 22 rule.  How many players always complain that when they double on 11 they seem to get an Ace?  Well ‘Power Blackjack’ gives players the opportunity to eliminate this part of the game for them.  Players will receive a ‘Power Split’ or ‘Power Double’ around 24% of the time compared with a dealer 22 of around 7% of the time.  That’s more than 3 times as many good things happening for the player compared to the compromise.  This leaves players feeling as though they have an edge on the game as they are receiving more favorable outcomes.  The result is that players will sit at the game for longer period of times and have a greater feeling of involvement and control on the game.

The players will enjoy more double downs and splits than in their regular BJ games thus increasing the ‘drop’ compared to regular Blackjack. The most important aspect for this game is the 22 push rule. The numbers on the internet are very strong as the casino does not have to account for Dealer error.  It is imperative that the casino require the dealer to announce all Dealer hand totals. There can be no tolerance for non-compliance with this rule. This game will compete with any game on the floor if dealt correctly!

Currently, ‘Power Blackjack’ is the best performing Blackjack game on the sites run by Wagerworks (owned by IGTand number 11 overall (including slots, all table games, bingo, video poker, and fixed odds).
